Special Needs:The soul is the same in all living creatures although the body of each is different

Medical issues in Dogs:

HEARTWORMS.... We sometimes get dogs surrendered to us that have heartworms. This is a very deadly condition but can be treated!  The treatment is very costly, and the animals usually do very well after recovery. We are always in need of donations for the heartworm treatment medical fund.

These dogs below are recovered & looking for their "forever" homes:

  STELLA

VIOLET

Violet is 7 yrs old and lived outside (without shelter) for a long time. She loves attention but is not adoptable, so she will live at her foster's home permanently and is our new Mascot for the rescue.

Feline Leukemia & Feline HIV:

We have several cats in our rescue that have tested positive for these conditions.  All are being treated and we are looking for foster homes or permanent homes for them.  Donations for the feline medical fund are greatly appreciated! Update & pictures of Odie's Surgery (from right column)

As most of you know Odie has been awaiting surgery for quite some time now and today was finally the day. Going into the surgery we knew it was very risky but was the only way to ensure that Odie could get a better quality of life and that his trachea would no longer be collapsing at any given time. The surgery is very invasive and may not completely clear up his problem but will keep it from getting worse and most likely resolve most of his coughing. It entailed placement of little plastic "C" shaped rings around his trachea that were about 1 inch wide. Each ring had small holes drilled into them and sutures were run through the rings into his trachea to attach them to his trachea. Through out the surgery you could see the trachea continually collapsing where the rings had not been placed yet. It was surprising to me and the veterinarian just how bad his collapsed trachea was and showed us just how little hope Odie probably had with out this surgery.

Well thankfully Odie made it through the surgery like the little fighter he is. I was present for the whole surgery, trying to not bite my nails or cry and thankfully he woke up in my arms just happy as could be, and breathing beautifully. Odie stuck around the clinic until 9pm for observation and I just brought him home. He has been pretty groggy but got very excited when we pulled in the driveway. He barked and jumped around in the car and was breathing heavily in my face... but I didn't hear a sound. No more honking! (this is what I have come to call the sound I have been hearing from him 24/7) I still have yet to hear so much as a cough or gurgle outta the little guy.

I have attached a few pictures of Odie during and after surgery. In the one photo of during the surgery you can see the rings that Odie now has placed on the entire length of his trachea. It is a little gory but very interesting to see. You will also see that Odie has staples running along his incision that runs from the start of his breast bone to the base of his jaw.

Now Odie has atleast 14 days of recovery and we will have to wait and see how much more after his re-check appt in about 10 days.

Please keep Odie in your prayers that he continues to do well as he is not completely out of the woods yet.

Odie is getting his SURGERY!!!

A nice guy, who was looking on Petfinder for a dog to adopt, called today and was interested in learning more about Odie. He just recently lost his King Charles Cavalier and was looking for a new one. He wasn't really interested in a mixed breed, like Odie is, but still wanted to know more about him. After learning about the surgery Odie needed, he said "Oh, I'll give you the money" and just like that he called the Vet Hospital and gave them his credit card number to put a $600 credit on our account!

He even called me back to tell me he was really glad he made this call because even though his little guy couldn't be helped, at least he can help another one in need and he's very thankful to us for letting him do this and for taking care of Odie, and his appointment is on the 15th of July.

THANK YOU David Bottrall !!!!!!

We appreciate you!!!!!
